Anyone seen any of this? Directed by Peter Jackson, WW1 footage has been restored to near modern standards.
very strange to watch soldiers walk around in full colour, in HD, and at the right speed (computers were used to add extra frames)
They even got forensic lip readers so they could get voice actors to add dialogue.

Watched it on iplayer last night, absolutely mesmerising and seeing it in colour and at a proper speed made it even more horrific, if that's possible!!
Hope Tony Blair has nightmares every night for the rest of his life for sending our troops off to an illegal, unwinnable war!

There was a fascinating documentary afterwards as well called "The Final Hours" about the signing of the Armistice and how some of the concessions the Germans had to make in some peoples minds may have contributed to the Second World War. Well worth a watch.

Fucking incredible document from a completely different world and time. The switch to colour was absolute genius, and really brought the people to life.
I understand films on iPlayer are subject to complex licensing agreements etc, but They Shall Never Grow Old is currently only on iPlayer for another 4-5 days.
Every episode of Eastenders is on there for 4 WEEKS. Something is very very wrong there, and it should be on there indefinitely.
Apparently the production company are sending a DVD copy to every secondary school in the UK. Excellent move.

No big deal... used to have kids a plenty in the front line in plenty of other conflicts... reading the Bernard Cromwell `Waterloo' book at teh mo and plenty of Frenchy drummer boys got slaughtered in the carnage....
